What draws holidaymakers to Caorle every year? The 15km stretch of gloriously golden, sandy beach. What makes them stay? Well, that would be the mouthwatering Caorle food, famous for its fresh and local produce; the charming town, which boasts a maze of winding streets and pretty piazzas; and the friendly locals, who are evidently proud of their historically rich culture and famously welcoming.
Once a sleepy fishing town, Caorle is now a top Venetian Riviera destination for holidaymakers. The hidden jewel in the Venetian Riviera's crown, this pretty seaside resort is hugely popular with families and couples alike. What's more? It's so easy to get to. An hourly bus service will bring you straight from Venice airport to Caorle in just under an hour and a half.
With a population of 12,000 and a beach bed count of up to 50,000, there's no fear of missing a spot on the sandy stretch. The beach offers private and public sections, both with an array of facilities to reach your every demand. There are also superb kid-friendly areas of the beach offering activities to keep everyone thoroughly entertained.
Caorle is not just sun, sea and sand, however. The resort's town centre is an ideal setting to while away the hours visiting the many cafes, bars and restaurants. The food in Caorle is renowned for its stellar quality. The town has a rich fishing history and subsequently, the fresh catches are plentiful and the dishes are mouthwateringly good. When it comes to wine, Caorle also gets top marks. The town is surrounded by prestigious vineyards, and, because of this, the wine available in Caorle will impress even the most discerning of connoisseurs.
Getting around the Caorle is easy. Take the scenic route on foot or hire a bike to explore further afield. The cycle paths are flat and easy to navigate, which is great for novice cyclists and children alike. The Orient Express is a great way to discover the city too. The quaint little tourist train takes you around the city at a leisurely pace and allows you to explore the city in comfort.
Jump on one of the regular motorboats, which depart hourly from the port of Caorle - just a short walk from the historical centre - to Venice. Drift along the dreamily sedate waters of the lagoon until you arrive at Venice and embrace the unique vantage point you have of St Mark's Square in all its architectural glory.
You simply can't leave Caorle without sampling the town's fresher than fresh fish. You'll find more than a couple of delicious fish dishes in most restaurants, among them broeto, a rich fish soup traditionally eaten by fisherman out at sea.
Just a few steps from the historical centre of Caorle lies Aquafollie water park. Whether you are a child or indeed an adult looking for some adrenaline filled fun, this place will not disappoint!
