Chic, sophisticated and boasting a superb ambience, the charming Alpine Italian resort of Courmayeur draws thousands upon thousands of avid hillwalkers to its verdant valleys and lush trails each year.

Nestled snugly at the foot of the majestic Mont Blanc – Europe's highest mountain – Courmayeur is part of the Aosta Valley, which means hillwalking aficionados of all levels can enjoy access to a vast stretch of hiking terrain.

This popular mountain town perfectly combines the charm and beauty of an old world Italian village with the hustle bustle and buzzing ambience of a modern holiday destination. Chic bars and top notch restaurants line winding, cobblestoned streets, while elegant boutiques and high end shops can be found within traditional alpine buildings. Stop for a coffee at one of the many fantastic cafés and watch the world go by. People watch at one of the many superb restaurants, while chowing down on some high quality cuisine, or meander the shops of the Via Roma, Courmayeur's pedestrianised area.

Hillwalking in and around Courmayeur is, quite simply, a joy. Expect incredible glacial views, storybook meadows and enchanting woods. You'll also find a great leisure centre in Courmayeur, where you can enjoy swimming, ice skating, tennis, squash, and indoor climbing. There's also the fascinating Duca degli Abruzzi Alpine Museum, which documents the history of mountain expeditions in the area – well worth a visit!
