Discover the beauty and atmosphere of the gorgeous Sorrento, take in the palpable history of Pompeii and experience the breathtaking beauty of the Amalfi Coast on this wonderful Escorted Tour Holiday.
Fly from Dublin to Naples where you will be met by Topflight's Resort Manager. You will be transferred by luxury air conditioned coach to your hotel, the 4 star Hotel La Pergola in Sant'Agnello, just outside Sorrento.
Today you are invited to join your Resort Manager and the rest of your group, for an entertaining and informative welcome meeting and tour around Sorrento’s stunning town centre. En route, your fantastically knowledgeable guide will point out buildings and monuments of note, regaling you with fascinating stories and anecdotes.
A refreshment stop at a much-loved gelateria, to meet the charming owner and sample some mouthwatering ice-cream, will be your next port of call, after which you'll visit a cameo shop, to see firsthand how this popular jewellery is crafted. A trip to see where Limoncello is made is also on the cards, as is the opportunity to sample a drop or two of this mouthwatering lemon liqueur.
After, you’ll head to a local restaurant where you can enjoy a drink on the terrace and soak up the stunning views across the bay.
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your agreed pick up point and taken by coach to the fascinating lost city of Pompeii. Following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii lay buried for over a thousand years. The town is now one of the most visited sites in the world and today your local guide will take you back in time with a tour along its original Roman streets. You can explore its ancient shops, bars and gyms, marvel at the fabulously preserved frescoes and mosaics and visit the main square where the former City Hall's ruins lie. This is an archaeological adventure which will not fail to impress, so make sure you pack your camera!
Today, explore the beautiful town of Sorrento at your own leisure. Set on a spectacular headland, Sorrento is located on one of the most magnificent coastlines in Italy, with breathtaking views sweeping across the Bay of Naples.
A sun-soaked idyll celebrated by poets, artists and musicians for centuries, you'll be struck by the beauty of its winding, cobblestoned streets and pretty piazzas. Little pavement cafés dotted throughout the town invite you to sit awhile, sip a coffee and enjoy a taste of la dolce vita, Sorrento style.
Quaint boutiques and dinky souvenir shops make it the perfect town to potter around in and you could easily spend hours doing so. In the evenings, life tends to centre round the main square, Piazza Tasso, where good value, high quality restaurants and cosy bars abound.
After breakfast, hop on your coach and embark on your Amalfi Coast adventure. The Amalfi drive is said to be the most spectacular in Europe and from Sorrento, the winding cliff top roads, overlooking sparkling blue sea, offer exquisite panoramic views.
The first stop will be high above Positano, one of the jewels of this coastline, built on different levels from the main road all the way down to sea. This particular spot offers optimum views of the surrounding area, so cameras at the ready.
Further along the coast, the coach makes a refreshment stop where you can admire the local ceramics in a traditional shop and enjoy panoramic views before going on to the town of Amalfi. Here, you will have time to explore this stunning spot at your own leisure. The real jewel in the Amalfi Coast's crown, Amalfi itself is set on a sand and shingle beach overlooking the glistening Bay of Salerno. The beautiful waterfront is a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy la dolce vita for which Amalfi is famous. In its town centre, the Duomo stands atop a long flight of steps with a lively piazza below. Both in the main square and on the seafront you will find lovely restaurants and street-side cafés with mesmerising views.
You will board your coach again and continue to the medieval town of Ravello, which nestles in the mountainside, 1,100ft above the sea. You can enjoy the most amazing views of the Amalfi coastline overlooking Minori, Maiori and beyond. You will then be brought back to your hotel.
Still thirsty for activities? No problem. Your Topflight Resort Manager will be more than happy to arrange great extra excursions or activities for you or even recommend fantastic local restaurants and bars so you can sample the local lifestyle.
Perhaps you'd like to book a Capri Boat Tour, where you can cruise along the coastline of this magical island and take in its beautiful sights, which include the lighthouse of Punta Carena and the famous Faraglioni Rocks. You will also have some free time to explore the island and stroll through its famous main square or admire the Augustus Gardens.
This morning, you can enjoy some breakfast in the hotel before checking out and taking your transfer back to Naples Airport for your return flight to Dublin.
This property is offered on a Bed & Breakfast basis.
The Pergola is in a great location for people who want to enjoy a quiet and peaceful stay but it is also has the benefit of being within reach of the bustling hub of the gorgeous Sorrento.
It is a beautiful and relatively flat 20 minute walk, or if that sounds like too much work in the Italian heat, you can take a 5 minute bus ride to the centre of Sorrento. There is also a taxi rank close by and a scheduled shuttle bus which goes to Sorrento centre, so it's easy to get out and about.
As one of Topflight’s longest-serving resort managers, Lindsey has lived in Sorrento for 38 years and knows the surrounding region like the back of her hand. Speaking of Sorrento she says "the whole area has so much culture, history, beauty, friendly locals and of course 9 months of sunshine, so what’s not to love!" Lindsey's not to miss are the Amalfi coast drive & Capri for the sheer beauty and a taste of la Dolce Vita.
Lorna couldn’t miss developing a love for all things Italian. Her Italian mum ensured that during childhood she was brought up enjoying the best of Italian food alongside frequent visits to her mother’s homeland. She has 30 years experience as a rep with 18 of these spent in Sorrento, her home now. Lorna says "all of the area is spectacular so either Capri or Amalfi excursions for sightseeing and Pompeii or Herculaneum for a little bit of history is a must."
Wendy first came to Sorrento on holiday years ago where she fell in love and later was married in a tiny church overlooking the beautiful Bay of Naples "I love everything about the Neapolitan way of life: The local food, regional wines, ancient traditions, myths, legends and vibrant atmosphere. Above all, the Neapolitan philosophy... 'Carpe Diem'..."
