The golden sandy beach is a huge attraction in the charming resort of Cattolica, but there are plenty of things to see and do if you can manage to tear yourself away from the beaches relaxing magic.

Known as the ‘Queen of the Adriatic Riviera’, Cattolica is a little gem located just 14km south of its busier and better-known counterpart, Rimini. It provides a sheltered beach that is popular with watersport lovers and sun worshippers alike.

The quaint town of Cattolica is filled with restaurants and markets and is a wonderful place to wander and relax while taking in the laid back atmosphere, if you should need a break from the beach. There is also wonderful seafront promenade to stroll lazily along, exploring the kiosks, shops and perhaps stopping for an ice-cream. In the summer time, visitors can take in the sights of the ‘Dancing Fountains’, a show which is held in the square at scheduled times. Jets of water rise and fall to the rhythm of music and spectacular coloured lights.

In the summer months the ‘Queen’s Arena’ hosts a number of wonderful outdoor concerts with some national and international celebrities performing. It is used as an important centre point for the ‘Notte Rosa’ or ‘The Pink Night’, a major festival held on the 7th of July in the Adriatic Riviera, which sees all the resorts along this stretch of coast turn pink in a joyous celebration of music, dancing special events and fireworks.

The Cattolica Aquarium is a popular attraction in the area, and for good reason. It is the second largest public aquarium in Italy and features over 100 exhibition tanks. Visitors can learn about the history of sea life as well as getting the opportunity to see numerous sea creatures up close. This is a fascinating and fun day out for children and adults alike.

A 15 minute drive from Cattolica is the Aquafan Water Park. One of the first water parks in Italy and considered to be one of the best in Europe, the Aquafan is well worth a day trip if you are staying in Cattolica. It consists of vast swimming pools, water slides, a slow and fast running river, wave pool and themed pools for all ages.
