On arrival to Pisa airport, take a local bus to Pisa Centrale Station and board the local train to La Spezia, both payable locally. Check in to the 4 star hotel CHD Hotel La Spezia, located just a short walk from the train station and in the very heart of the shopping district. Guests will enjoy modern bedrooms and a delicious and varied buffet breakfast each morning.
Today, hop on the bus from La Spezia to Portovenere, where you will take the short boat trip to Palmaria Island. Here, you can follow the circular path around this beautiful island, famous for its marble quarry. The views and landscape here are fantastic. The distance of the path is approximately 7km, around 2 hours walk.
On one side, you can enjoy an incredible panorama of the Bay of Poets, the resplendent village of Portovenere and the port of La Spezia and on the other side you are rewarded with seemingly endless views of glistening blue waters and sky.
To get back to the hotel, simply take the boat transfer from Portovenere back to La Spezia and the local bus back to your hotel.
Today, hop on the train (duration approximately 8 minutes) to Riomaggiore. Riomaggiore, the most southern village in Cinque Terre, is a labyrinth of winding alleys and steps and a truly fascinating place to explore. The village is brought to life with colourful, little boats and fishermen selling their wares. Visitors can enjoy tasty seafood restaurants and cosy bars here, where you can lazily watch the world go by.
On arrival, follow the path uphill, through beautiful vineyards, to the monastery of the Madonna di Montenero. Continue along the path to the Telegrafo fortress and on to Campiglia, from which a spectacular path descends to Portovenere. From here, you can then take a local bus back to La Spezia.
This morning, take the train to Monterosso (duration approximately 30 minutes, payable locally, €4 per person) and check into your 4 star hotel for the next 4 nights. The Hotel Palme is located within just a 2 minute walk from the town's lovely, sandy beach as well as the train station. The hotel is surrounded by palm trees, hence the name, and it features a lounge bar and a TV room.
In the afternoon, we suggest trekking through the misty olive groves and pine woods until you reach Punta Mesco and enjoy unique views of the Cinque Terre and its islands. Return by train, payable locally, back to Monterosso and return to your hotel.
Take the 8-minute train journey to Corniglia, today, a promontory (high area of land or rock that sticks out into the sea) with two small beaches on either side. Walk to the medieval fishing village of Vernazza, arguably the most beautiful of all the Cinque Terre’s villages. Its medieval castle Belforte, was built in the mid-1500s and is a must-see for any visitors to the village. The tiny port is bursting with a mix of pastel hues and vibrant shades and its charming piazza is filled with fantastic restaurants and bars.
Continue on your journey and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding olive groves, vineyard and sparkling sea and later, return by train to Monterosso.
From Monterosso, take the Road of the Sanctuaries. On this ancient route you can reach the Madonna di Soviore sanctuary, Cigoletta and the village of Corniglia. Later, you will return once again to Monterosso by train.
Take a train to Corniglia. From here you will follow a trekking path to Manarola and the beautiful Via dell’Amore. Perched on a cliff, stretching 70 metres above sea level, Manarola is one of the most charming and romantic villages in the Cinque Terre. Its emblematic multicoloured houses, which face out onto the sea are truly something to behold, while its tiny piazza boasts some of the best seafood restaurant in the entire region. Later, return once again by train to Monterosso.
