Discover the romance of Venice, the mystique of Athens and the historic beauty of Dubrovnik on board the fabulous Silver Moon, as you journey from one unforgettable Mediterranean highlight to the next.
Today you will fly to Venice where you will stay for one evening before your cruise begins. This gives you some time to take in the sights and sounds of Venice and all that it has to offer.
The most romantic city in the world, the floating city of Venice is one of epic grandeur. Take a gondola ride on the canal and gaze upon the glorious Venetian architecture lining its banks. Built on a lagoon, this city will surely amaze you. Stroll along the Bridge of Sighs, explore the range of historic sights and wind down with a coffee or a glass of prosecco in the popular St. Mark’s Square. Venice has been attracting poets and artists for many years. It is one of Italy’s finest cities with a truly inspiring atmosphere.
Šibenik's main monument, its Gothic-Renaissance cathedral, built of pale-gray Dalmatian stone and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands on a raised piazza close to the seafront promenade. From here a network of narrow, cobbled streets leads through the medieval quarter of tightly packed, terra-cotta–roof houses, and up to the ruins of a 16th-century hilltop fortress.
The city has never been a real tourist destination. Before the Croatian war for independence, it was a relatively prosperous industrial center, but when the factories closed, Šibenik sank into an economic depression. However, the cathedral more than warrants a look, and it makes a decent base for visiting the waterfalls of Krka National Park.
Arrive in the walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia’s most popular cruise destination. This unique medieval town will leave you in awe. Stroll through the shaded Old Town, a ten minute drive from the port and get a feel for the city's rich history with its opulent baroque buildings. Set off and explore beautiful quaint boutiques, friendly bars and fabulous restaurants as well as taking in the spectacular views over the ocean as you walk through this beautiful city. Or take it easy and relax by soaking up the sun and the sea air on the beautiful beaches. Cliff side cafés are dotted along the coast line, so after a dip in the sparkling Adriatic sea, you can take a break in one of these charming hangouts.
Today you will have time to spend as you wish on board your cruise ship, discovering all of its fantastic facilities. With so much to do, so many places to eat and drink and so many ways to unwind, you’ll find that on your cruise holiday, the journey is just as enjoyable as exploring the destination.
A call at Souda Bay promises sparkling beaches, engrossing history and no shortage of proud Maritime tradition. You'll drift past the fortified walls of Leon and Souda islands as you enter this natural harbour, which gives you access to all of Crete’s wonders, including Chania’s collection of fascinating museums, uncovered archaeological sites, and glorious Venetian architecture.
Souda Bay's strategic positioning means it’s long been an important naval base – and Greek and UN bases still operate here today, on the northern rim of the bay. So it’s well worth travelling a little further out, to find heavenly beaches like the famous Elafonissi Beach - where pink sand and fizzing waves of crystal clear water, converge. The port here dates back to antiquity, when it was used to access the ancient city of Aptera.
Rhodes town—sometimes referred to as Ródos town—is still a city of two parts: the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that incorporates the high town and lower city and the modern metropolis, or New Town, spreading away from the walls that encircle the Old Town. The narrow streets of the Old Town are for the most part closed to cars and are lined with Orthodox and Catholic churches, Turkish houses (some of which follow the ancient orthogonal plan), and medieval public buildings with exterior staircases and facades elegantly constructed of well-cut limestone from Lindos. Careful reconstruction in recent years has enhanced the harmonious effect.
You will get a chance to experience the glamorous resort of Mykonos today. This will give you a true flavour of what the Cyclades islands are really like, with their traditional, whitewashed architecture and maze of narrow streets. There’s plenty to see and do during your day of exploration in Mykonos. You can’t visit without venturing to one of its beautiful beaches. We advise hopping in a taxi and taking the twenty minute trip to the southern – and ultra picturesque – Super Paradise beach.
You will dock at Piraeus and transfer to the wonderful Athens where you will stay for 2 nights at a 5 star hotel. You will have time to explore this mesmerising place before returning home.
It's no wonder that all roads lead to the fascinating and maddening metropolis of Athens. Lift your eyes 200 feet above the city to the Parthenon, its honey-color marble columns rising from a massive limestone base, and you behold architectural perfection that has not been surpassed in 2,500 years. But, today, this shrine of classical form dominates a 21st-century boomtown. To experience Athens—Athína in Greek—fully is to understand the essence of Greece: ancient monuments surviving in a sea of cement, startling beauty amid the squalor, tradition juxtaposed with modernity. Locals depend on humor and flexibility to deal with the chaos; you should do the same. The rewards are immense. Although Athens covers a huge area, the major landmarks of the ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods are close to the modern city center.
Today you will be transferred to the airport from where you will fly back to Dublin airport with a wealth of wonderful memories to treasure.
