Today, you arrive in the Catalan capital of Spain. The enchanting seaside city of Barcelona is packed full of culture, brimming with exquisite architecture and laden with superb dining spots. Hop off your ship and stroll towards La Rambla – Barcelona's most famous street – located a 15 minute walk away from the port. From here, you will find a wealth of sights, shops and restaurants to explore. Topflight recommends visiting El Barrio Gótico aka the Gothic Quarter, one of the oldest and most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city. A magical labyrinth of cobblestoned streets, lined with quaint shops, bustling bars and boutique shops, you will find no shortage of things to do here!
A place of monasteries tucked into mountains, surreal art, and gorgeous beaches, Palamos is your gateway to the Costa Brava’s scenic beauty, and the cultural wonders of Catalonia. Inspect Palamos’ rugged coastline, and you can almost see the Catalan flag’s blood and gold colours reflected in the craggy red cliffs and golden sands. Soak in the unfiltered glory of Spain’s Wild Coast, which is fringed with attractive beaches and rock-dappled outcrops lunging into the blue Mediterranean waves. Known for its rich, meaty prawns, Palamos is a flavourful stop of culture, coastline and historic charm.
Founded in 600 BC, Marseille is the oldest city in France and today you are free to explore this bustling port city in whatever way you choose! Le Vieux Port is a great spot to sit down and watch the hustle bustle of Marseille life, or indeed, watch the fishermen sell their fare at the morning fish market. Have a wander around Le Panier, Marseille's old town, which is filled with magical, meandering cobblestoned streets lined with dainty cafés, eateries and shops. For those preferring a more historical experience, Topflight recommends visiting the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde, the Romano-Byzantine basilica perched on the city's highest hill, La Garde.
Next stop Monte Carlo! Synonymous with its upmarket casinos, super yacht lined harbour and the renowned Grand Prix motor race, one of the most glamourous sporting events there is. This is a truly impressive and plush place where both celebs and royalty rub shoulders. On the south side of the port there is a rocky outcrop known as Le Rocher which is home to the royal palace, as well as a rather charming little old town which feels a world away from Monte Carlo's skyscrapers and super yachts and is worth a visit for its quaint and contrasting atmosphere.
Portofino, a coastal village that is remarkably well kept and beautiful. There is an air of exclusivity about the place and the pastel coloured buildings that fringe the shores make for an absolutely dream like sight. This has long since been a destination for the rich and famous and you can see the evidence of this today with a selection of superyachts in the nearby harbour and the castle that overlooks the village. The quaint and charming streets are dotted with amazing restaurants and exclusive boutiques for you to spend your day perusing.
Livorno is a one of the most important ports in Italy. Discover its colourful history and seafood that is famed to be the best on the Tyrrhenian coast. While away the hours discovering the historic quarter, laced with extravagant architecture and Venetian style canals. Or take a bus to Florence, just over an hour from Livorno, but well worth it to explore the entire city by foot and discover its mind blowing Renaissance art and architecture. Pisa and Rome are also a short distance by train from this port, so you'll be spoilt for choice on this part of your exciting journey.
Amid the resorts of Sardinia's northeastern coast, Olbia, a town of about 60,000, is a lively little seaport and port of call for mainland ferries at the head of a long, wide bay. San Simplicio, Olbia's little Catholic basilica, a short walk behind the main Corso Umberto and past the train station, is worth searching out. The simple granite structure dates from the 11th century, part of the great Pisan church-building program, using pillars and columns recycled from Roman buildings.
Your final port of call is Rome where you will have the chance to stay and explore for the next 2 nights. In the very heart of the eternal city, the 5 star Ambasciatori Palace Hotel is classic and elegant with luxury at every turn. It is just a ten minute walk from the Trevi Fountain so you’ll be based close enough to explore all the cities top tourist spots.
