Walking holidays - explore the island on foot
One of the best ways to appreciate Madeira’s spectacular scenery is to explore the island’s 500 miles of tracks and walking trails, called ‘levadas.’ Named after the island’s extensive network of irrigation channels which they were originally built to service, these levadas are graded from simple strolls to longer, more challenging walks. Topflight recommends the local guided walking tours led by professional hikers. Be sure to wear good walking shoes and set out properly equipped and prepared.
