Nestled at the top of the Oetz Valley, Obergurgl & Hochgurgl share one of the highest ski areas in Austria, resulting in an excellent snow record from November to May. Obergurgl is a traditional village with a great choice of quality hotels and traditional restaurants. Both villages enjoy excellent snow cover, uncrowded slopes and plenty of skiing for mixed ability groups. There are two linked areas where skiing takes place. A two-seater chair from the village centre transports skiers to the Gaisberg, while access to the separate Festkogel is by gondola. The Top Express Gurgl lift links Hochgurgl to the Obergurgl ski area.

The skiing and lifts are right in the village with doorstep skiing to most hotels (weather permitting). The nursery slopes are convenient to the village and are so gentle that even the most timid learners will not be afraid. There are 16 beginners slopes covered on the lift pass, some rising to almost 10,000ft with spectacular views. The whole area has an extensive choice for intermediate skiers, while experienced skiers can enjoy some great off-piste at Sattel and one of the biggest bump runs at the Hohe Mut. For snowboarders, this is one of Austria’s best carver resorts. Beginners can take advantage of the wide, quiet slopes.

Après Ski

After a day on the slopes Sölden is the ideal place to enjoy the local nightlife as the resort’s many restaurants, bars and clubs come to life. Open until the early hours, there’s a real buzz about the place with a lively party atmosphere every night of the week. Be sure to keep Friday night free for the weekly Sölden party up on the Giggijoch in the heart of the skiing area.
