About Lake Garda

The largest of the Italian lakes, Lake Garda lies between the Alps and the Dolomites. Clear blue waters lap its wide shoreline where visitors can enjoy a host of watersports including swimmimg, sailing and boat trips. Dotted along Garda's lake shore are dozens of picturesque towns and villages, steeped in history. The landscape is spectacular, with its brilliant blooms, olive groves and magnificent villas.

Riva: The principal resort on the northern shore of Lake Garda, Riva is known for its Venetian castle, museums and art galleries. Watersports are very popular. Approximate transfer time from airport: 2hrs

Torbole: A great sailing and windsurfing destination, Torbole is a pretty town with spectacular views of the lake.  Approx. transfer time from airport: 2hrs

Malcesine: "The Botanical Garden of Europe" lies at the foot of Mount Baldo with its cobblestoned streets leading to the lakefront. It is a charming town on Garda’s eastern shore. Approx. transfer time from airport: 1hr 30mins

Garda/Bardolino: Garda and Bardolino are the most popular resorts on the lake and both enjoy an idyllic position less than an hour from the historical city of Verona. Approx. transfer time from airport: 35 minutes

Peschiera: Activities, scenery and good value make this a top family resort. Approx. transfer from airport: 45 minutes

Lazise: This is an old walled town with an enchanting atmosphere. Approx. transfer time from airport: 1hr 50 minutes

Note: Between the resorts of Peschiera and Lazise, both very popular with families, lie the theme parks of Gardaland and Caneva World.

Sirmione: A charming Roman spa town best known for its thermal baths and fairytale castle of Rocca Scaligera. Approx. transfer time from airport: 1hr 10mins

Desenzano: A typical lakeside town, unspoilt by tourism, with historic features dating back to Roman times. Approx. transfer time from airport: 1hr 20mins

Gardone Riviera/Salo: A quiet corner of Lake Garda, this is less commercialised than other resorts and known for its beauty. Approx. transfer time from airport: 1 hour 20 minutes

Limone: This is a quaint village with cobblestoned alleyways and streets on the northern shores of Lake Garda. Approx. transfer time from airport: 2hrs 30mins

The unit of currency is the Euro.
Master Card and Visa are the most widely accepted forms of credit card.
Bank opening hours vary , but are generally open from Monday to Friday between 8.30am to 1.15pm and 2.30 to 3.45pm..

Food

Bustling restaurants, Italian hospitality and excellent cuisine make every meal a culinary delight. Pizzas start from €5 and a three-course meal from €12. Lunch is usually served from 12.30 to 2pm and dinner from 8 to 10pm.

Drink

Beer and wine are generally cheaper than in Ireland. Spirits, coffee and tea prices are comparable to Ireland.

Languages

Italian is the native language. English is widely understood.
