TRI SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH ALIVE OUTSIDE AND TOPFLGHT
A SKI HOLIDAY WITH A DIFFERENCE

Have you got extra energy to burn?
Do you feel you need a focus, a challenge?

Would you be interested in combining your winter ski holiday with some pre-season triathlon training?

Dublin, Monday 23rd August 2010:
Triathlon is the fastest growing sport in Ireland and, Topflight and Alive Outside are proud to announce the inaugural Alive Outside Irish National Skiathlon Championship from 12th-19th March 2011 in St Johann in Tirol, Austria.

The week will climax with the first ever Alive Outside Irish National Skiathlon Championship on the Thursday - St Patrick’s Day.  Participants will compete in a ‘Skiathlon’ race which combines swimming 750m in an indoor pool, followed by 5km Cross Country Skiing, Biathlon target shooting and a 5km Forest Trail Run. See www.aliveoutside.ie for further details.

Although the week also caters for those people who are not triathletes but who just want to go for the ski and craic, the basis for the week is a healthy combination of three days downhill skiing/boarding and three days Triathlon training, which are alternated.  The three days skiing will include lessons for complete beginners or intermediates in skiing or snow boarding.  For those people who are very experienced and do not require lessons, there will be guided “ski safaris” in the resorts covered by the Kitzbuhueler Alpen Ski Pass such as St Johann, Steinplatte, Ski Welt,  Kitzbühel, Saalbach and Zell am See – access of which is all within 40 minute proximity by taxi or train.  There are also ski packages available for those people who are not triathletes and who just want to ski for this great challenge week.

The triathlon training is driven through the Nordic sport of Biathlon, with the traditional cycling element of triathlon replaced with classic Cross Country Skiing, Biathlon shooting, together with snow shoe hiking, forest trail running and indoor swimming.  Full Nordic Skiing, and shooting practice is provided during the lead up to the race, with top local experts.

According to Simon Bewley of Alive Outside; “We’re really excited about this first ever Skiathlon. Not only will people be able to enjoy the skiing, the fresh air and the après ski but there are also so many benefits to athletes trying out Biathlon and cross training at altitude  improving  strength and endurance, motivation to get aerobically fitter and the chance to meet with a great bunch of people who are similarly motivated.”

There will be a FREE information evening in both Dublin and Cork for anybody interested in hearing more about this great holiday and challenge.  Dublin; on Tuesday 14th September, 2010 at the Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road, D4 from 6 - 8pm.  Cork; on Wednesday 15th September, 2010 at Clarion Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork from 6 - 8pm.  To sign up for these info evenings, please call Alive Outside directly on +353 1 2147355, due to limited places available, you must reserve your attendance in advance, first come, first served.
