Nightlife in Rome ranges from a romantic stroll along the Tiber to people- watching at an outdoor bar or dining in one of the many fantastic restaurants. If you want to party until late, the Testaccio and Ostiense districts boast the highest concentration of clubs, bars and live music venues.

For great shopping in Rome head for Via del Corso or Via Nazionale, bustling streets with great high street stores. For designed labels, Via del Condotti opposite the Spanish Steps is home to Armani, Prada, Hermes and Gucci but if you are looking for a bargain, the popular Porta Portese flea market takes place every Sunday from 8am until 2pm.

The Roman Forum
The Forum was the centre of ancient Rome, where people came to meet, shop and conduct business. To this day you can see the preserved ruins of its temples, arches and basilicas.

The Colosseum
In Ancient Rome, the Colosseum staged the major entertainment of the time, pitting animals and humans against each other in deadly combat. Today the shell of this massive building remians the greatest architectural legacy from the era.

The Pantheon
Dating back to 118AD, the Pantheon was built by Emperor Hadrian as a Temple for all pagan gods. Its famous dome was the largest of its time.

Trevi Fountain
The famous Baroque fountain features Neptune, god of the sea, riding a chariot pulled by two sea horses. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain you will return to Rome.

St Peter's Square
Located right in the front of St. Peters Basilica, St. Peters Square was designed to allow huge numbers of people see the Pope give his blessing from a window in the Vatican Palace.

Spanish Steps
decorated in summer with pink azaleas, the Spanish Steps lead up to the French Church, Trinita dei Monti. If you can't climb the steps, there is a lift to the top.

The Sistine Chapel 
painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is one of the most renowned artworks of the Renaissance.
