| Day 1: Dublin-Catania
Take a direct flight from Dublin to Catania Airport. Your
Topflight tour manager will greet you on your arrival and you
will be transferred by luxury coach to the Acireale area. Check
in at your hotel, the 4* Park Hotel Capomulini or similar.
Dinner is at your hotel this evening.
Day 2: Mount Etna and Taormina
After breakfast, we set off for a visit to Mount Etna, Europe’s
greatest active volcano, stopping off on the way at a honey
laboratory at Zaffetana Etnea where you can taste the
delicious local honey produced in this area.
Once we reach Mount Etna, we will go to the Silvester
Crater area (1900m) to see the amazing craters and the
remains of recent lava flows. From here you can enjoy
breathtaking views over the sea. We continue our journey to
Taormina. There is free time for lunch, followed by a visit to
the Greek Theatre. Return to your hotel for dinner and
overnight stay.
Day 3: Catania and Syracuse
After breakfast we depart for Catania, Sicily’s second largest
city with a rich historic and cultural heritage.
You will see some of the main attractions of the city
including the Cathedral, Duomo Square and Via Crociferi.
Then we proceed towards the ancient seaside town of
Syracuse. There is free time for lunch, followed by a visit to the
Archaeological Park and the historic centre, Ortigia. Return to
your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Piazza Armerina and Agrigento
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and make our way to
Piazza Amerina, a pretty and historic town nestled in the heart
of Sicily. Here we will visit the Roman Villa, renowned for its
stunning collection of ancient mosaics. These give an insight
into Roman life rarely seen elsewhere. The villa itself also
conjures up a fascinating past, with its layout depicting how wealthy Romans many centuries ago may have lived.
Following free time for lunch, we board our luxury coach
once more and enjoy a scenic drive to Agrigento on the
southern coast of the island and visit the famous Valley of the
Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the
greatest legacies of ancient Greece. Its well preserved Doric
temples date back to the 5th and 6th Centuries BC and are a
must-see attraction. Dinner and overnight stay are at the 3*
Grand Hotel Mosè or similar in Agrigento.
Day 5: Erice - Segesta - Palermo
After breakfast, having checked out of our hotel in Agrigento,
we journey to Erice, a beautiful medieval hilltop town on the
island’s western coast. Here you will find ancient buildings and
monuments, spectacular views and charming little streets
leading on to piazzas lined with lovely cafés and restaurants.
After free time for lunch we visit the nearby town of
Segesta, founded by the Elymians, one of the native people of
Sicily. We visit the Archaeological Park where you will see
some of the finest remains of a Greek temple, Greco-Roman
theatre, the ruins of a Norman castle, a small church and a
mosque.
We then continue our journey to the capital of Sicily,
Palermo, where we check into the 4* Hotel Astoria Palace or
similar for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Palermo and Monreale
After breakfast we have a guided tour of Palermo, a bustling
city on the north-west coast of the island.
Among the many attractions here are the city’s Norman
Cathedral, the Palatine Chapel, Piazza Pretoria and the
Saracen-Norman-Spanish Palazzo Reale, now the seat of the
local parliament.
There is free time for lunch, after which we visit the
stunning cathedral and cloister of Monreale a short drive
away. At the end of all our sightseeing we return to our hotel
in Palermo for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Cefalù - Acireale
This morning after breakfast we check out of our hotel in
Palermo and depart for the beautiful fishing town of Cefalù.
Set in the medieval district, we visit the imposing Duomo,
an attractive Norman cathedral whose interior is decorated
with ancient mosaics.
Following free time for lunch, we travel to the historic Acireale
area, steeped in history and mythology. Dinner and overnight
stay is at the 4* Hotel Park or similar in Acireale.
Day 8: The Tour Ends
After breakfast this morning we say goodbye to Sicily and
make our way to Catania Airport for our return flight to Dublin.
Alternatively, you may choose to extend your stay by spending
a second week in Giardini Naxos in Hotel Sabbie d’Oro or any of our featured hotels. We can
organise transfers to your hotel of choice. Whichever you choose, we’re sure you will have memories
