Day 2: Mount Etna and Taormina After breakfast, we set off for a visit to Mount Etna, Europe’s greatest active volcano, stopping off on the way at a honey laboratory at Zaffetana Etnea where you can taste the delicious local honey produced in this area. Once we reach Mount Etna, we will go to the Silvester Crater area (1900m) to see the amazing craters and the remains of recent lava flows. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views over the sea. We continue our journey to Taormina. There is free time for lunch, followed by a visit to the Greek Theatre. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Catania and Syracuse After breakfast we depart for Catania, Sicily’s second largest city with a rich historic and cultural heritage. You will see some of the main attractions of the city including the Cathedral, Duomo Square and Via Crociferi. Then we proceed towards the ancient seaside town of Syracuse. There is free time for lunch, followed by a visit to the Archaeological Park and the historic centre, Ortigia. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Piazza Armerina and Agrigento After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and make our way to Piazza Amerina, a pretty and historic town nestled in the heart of Sicily. Here we will visit the Roman Villa, renowned for its stunning collection of ancient mosaics. These give an insight into Roman life rarely seen elsewhere. The villa itself also conjures up a fascinating past, with its layout depicting how wealthy Romans many centuries ago may have lived. Following free time for lunch, we board our luxury coach once more and enjoy a scenic drive to Agrigento on the southern coast of the island and visit the famous Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the greatest legacies of ancient Greece. Its well preserved Doric temples date back to the 5th and 6th Centuries BC and are a must-see attraction. Dinner and overnight stay are at the 3* Grand Hotel Mosè or similar in Agrigento.

Day 5: Erice - Segesta - Palermo After breakfast, having checked out of our hotel in Agrigento, we journey to Erice, a beautiful medieval hilltop town on the island’s western coast. Here you will find ancient buildings and monuments, spectacular views and charming little streets leading on to piazzas lined with lovely cafés and restaurants. After free time for lunch we visit the nearby town of Segesta, founded by the Elymians, one of the native people of Sicily. We visit the Archaeological Park where you will see some of the finest remains of a Greek temple, Greco-Roman theatre, the ruins of a Norman castle, a small church and a mosque. We then continue our journey to the capital of Sicily, Palermo, where we check into the 4* Hotel Astoria Palace or similar for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Palermo and Monreale After breakfast we have a guided tour of Palermo, a bustling city on the north-west coast of the island. Among the many attractions here are the city’s Norman Cathedral, the Palatine Chapel, Piazza Pretoria and the Saracen-Norman-Spanish Palazzo Reale, now the seat of the local parliament. There is free time for lunch, after which we visit the stunning cathedral and cloister of Monreale a short drive away. At the end of all our sightseeing we return to our hotel in Palermo for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Cefalù - Acireale This morning after breakfast we check out of our hotel in Palermo and depart for the beautiful fishing town of Cefalù. Set in the medieval district, we visit the imposing Duomo, an attractive Norman cathedral whose interior is decorated with ancient mosaics. Following free time for lunch, we travel to the historic Acireale area, steeped in history and mythology. Dinner and overnight stay is at the 4* Hotel Park or similar in Acireale.
