THE GARDENS OF LAKE MAGGIORE
The picture-perfect Lake Maggiore exudes romantic charm with
palatial villas and landscaped gardens dotted along its shoreline.
DAY 1: FLY DUBLIN - MILAN MALPENSA
Transfer to your hotel in the resort of Stresa, an
elegant resort on the west side of romantic Lake
Maggiore, where you will stay for 7 nights at the
4* Hotel La Palma on a Half Board basis.
DAY 2: BORROMEAN ISLANDS TOUR
Today we visit the three Borromean Islands.The
morning is spent on Isola Madre which is the largest
and most peaceful of the three. There is an atmosphere
of silence and enchantment in this garden filled with
exotic trees, plants and flowers. Parrots, peacocks and
pheasants add to the charm of this tropical island in the
middle of the lake.
We have lunch on Fisherman’s Island, the smallest of
the three islands. After lunch we visit Isola Bella, home
to the Borromean Palace and the Italian Gardens.
DAY 3: TRIP TO LAKE ORTA
Lake Orta is one of the smaller Italian lakes, where we
take a boat to the village of Orta, stopping at the tiny
island of Saint Julius on the way. Here we will see the
beautiful Basilica. We have plenty of time to explore this
delightful village before taking a little cruise before
returning to Lake Maggiore.
DAY 4: VISIT BALBIANELLO & BELLAGIO
ON LAKE COMO
We take a coach trip via the southern end of Lake
Maggiore to Lake Como.
Enjoy a boat trip to Villa Balbianello. The villa was
built in 1878 on the site of a Franciscan monastery and in
more recent times has been renovated several times.
The villa and garden have been greatly improved and has
become a popular destination for film-makers. We visit
Bellagio where you can enjoy lunch and a little shopping.
We then cruise back to Tremezzo and return to Lake
Maggiore by coach.
DAY 5: FULL DAY MACUGNAGA, MOUNT ROSA
A beautiful journey up the Anza Valley up to Mount Rosa
awaits you on this day. Visit the village of Macugnaga, a
haven for nature, culture and tradition.
DAY 6: AT YOUR LEISURE
Today gives you the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy
your hotel and the surrounding area.
DAY 7: HALF DAY TRIP TO VILLA TARANTO
Today you enjoy a half day excursion by boat to visit the
botanical gardens of Villa Taranto.
These gardens were given to the Italian State by a
Scotsman, Captain Neil McEacharn who had travelled
the world over, bringing seeds and plants back with him
to these gardens. It now includes more than 20,000 plant
specimens. The end of August is a wonderful time for
viewing the 300 varieties of dahlias.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE FROM MILAN - DUBLIN
Today we say arrivederci to Italia and take the flight back
to Dublin
